Tyler Shough continues to gain national attention heading into the 2026 season, as Fox Sports' Ben Arthur ranked Shough as the quarterback from the 2025 draft class most likely to breakout in Year 2. After showing flashes during his rookie year, expectations are growing that he could take a major leap in his sophomore campaign and help elevate the New Orleans Saints offense to another level.
Arthur believes Tyler Shough is positioned for a major second-year leap after an impressive rookie campaign put him on the national radar. With another year in the system, improved weapons around him, and growing confidence within the organization, expectations continue to rise for the Saints quarterback entering the 2026 season.
“Shough, who finished second in Offensive Rookie of the Year voting to Carolina Panthers receiver Tetairoa McMillan, is the only quarterback on this list to be playing in the same system as a year ago. Staying in head coach Kellen Moore's scheme puts the QB at a huge advantage entering Year 2. And if No. 8 overall pick Jordyn Tyson plays to the expectations of his draft slot, Shough will have two No. 1-caliber receivers with Tyson and Chris Olave.”
New Orleans Saints put Tyler Shough in prime position for breakout sophomore season
The Saints have done everything possible to put their young quarterback in position to succeed in 2026. From adding explosive playmakers to continuing to invest heavily in the offense New Orleans has built a much stronger supporting cast around Shough. With improved protection, a more balanced run game, and increased depth at skill positions, the foundation is in place for him to take a major step forward in his sophomore campaign.
The signing of Travis Etienne Jr. gives the Saints another explosive weapon who can take pressure off of Tyler Shough and create more opportunities for the passing game. An improved run game should create steadier offense, allowing Shough to face fewer obvious passing situations. Combined with the team's major investment in offensive playmakers through the draft, Shough enters year two with the supporting cast needed to make a big sophomore leap.
If everything comes together, Tyler Shough could make a similar second-year leap to the one Drake Maye made in his second year. With improved weapons, more comfortability in the system, and a stronger supporting cast around him, Shough has the opportunity to take a major step forward and elevate the Saints offense in 2026.
