The New Orleans Saints offensive line was no good last season, ranking 26th in the league according to NFL analyst Ryan Paganetti. This upcoming season, it has to be better. Lest they risk the development of their young star quarterback, Tyler Shough.

The offensive line must be solid for any quarterback to succeed as a professional, especially for someone who has only started half a season's worth of games. Unfortunately for the Saints, their offensive line was not close to being a brick wall. Sacked 31 times in just nine games, Shough needs the pocket to be more stable in his sophomore year.

All that, along with the run game benefiting from an elite o-line, makes the unit such an important factor for 2026. With a good offensive line, things can only really get better for the Saints. Luckily, that seems to be the current expectation for the Black and Gold.

The Saints' offense is listed as a breakout candidate by The Athletic

The hype around the New Orleans Saints really seems to have broken containment of the local media and gone national. Most recently reported by The Athletic, the offense in New Orleans is expected to have a stellar year in 2026.

Apparently, it’s because of their big men up front. “If the offensive line lives up to its potential, New Orleans has a chance to make a big jump.” Ted Nguyen of The Athletic wrote.

That potential is huge, and it has to be because the Saints have invested a lot of capital into it. Headlined by the signing of David Edwards, who was the top guard available in free agency, they also managed to add a legit depth piece via the draft with Jermiah Wright. The good news for New Orleans doesn’t stop there either, with both of the Saints' young tackles also primed to take the next step in their respective careers.

Shough took the league by storm with one of the worst lines in the NFL, so regardless of how big the jump might be, it is bound to be sufficient. Just as long as there’s still a move forward. If it doesn’t, then the 2026 season will be long.
