Many New Orleans Saints fans are optimistic entering the 2026 season, and for good reason.  The team won five of its final nine games while showing clear progress late in the year.  There is growing excitement around quarterback Tyler Shough after his impressive Offensive Rookie of the Year campaign.

There’s growing confidence that their young quarterback will take a major leap this upcoming season after the organization made it a priority to surround him with playmakers in both the backfield and pass catching positions. With an improved supporting cast and added continuity within the offense, expectations are rising for the unit to take a significant step forward in 2026.

Even with a strong finish to the season and several offseason additions, Bleacher Report wasn’t particularly moved.  The Saints received just a 4/10 for on Bleacher Report analyst Brad Gagnon's excitement meter heading into the 2026 season, ranking third in the NFC South and 13th overall in the NFC.  “Quarterback Tyler Shough helps the Saints' cause quite a bit in terms of 2026 intrigue, but there isn't a lot else going for this rebuilding squad.”

Optimism is building around the New Orleans Saints but, national media remains low

The New Orleans Saints were aggressive this offseason in their attempt to build a stronger supporting cast around Shough.  The additions of veteran playmakers Travis Etienne and Noah Fant give the offense experienced contributors who have already proven they can be reliable pieces at the NFL level.

New Orleans also spent heavily in the draft on pass catchers, using half of their selections on three wide receivers and one tight end.  One of the most exciting additions is Jordyn Tyson, a high ceiling prospect who could quickly emerge as a major weapon in the passing game.

The Saints also feel encouraged about Shough entering his second season after an impressive rookie campaign.  Unlike last year, he’ll now enter the season as the unquestioned starter with a full offseason preparing as QB1 from the beginning.

The Saints might not have the flashiest roster on paper, but they made a concerted effort to bring, productive talent across the offense.  While a 4/10 excitement rating feels lower than expected given their strong finish and roster improvements, New Orleans will have every opportunity to prove the doubters wrong once the 2026 season begins.
