Just a day after finalizing their 53-man roster for the 2025 NFL season, the New Orleans Saints got to work on building their practice squad.

There weren't many surprise cuts made by New Orleans before the roster trimming deadline on Tuesday, although there were still some moves that left some people scratching their heads.

Some of the players who didn't make the initial 53 have been lucky enough to return to the Crescent City as part of the Saints practice squad, while others were picked up on waivers or are taking their NFL journeys elsewhere.

One of the more surprising transactions the Saints made on Tuesday was the release of 2025 seventh-round draft pick Fadil Diggs. But luckily, the team was able to bring him back to New Orleans as a member of the practice squad. Diggs had an impressive camp and preseason, outperforming the likes of 2023 second-round draft pick Isaiah Foskey, his fellow defensive end. Even so, it seems that the Saints would still like him to polish a thing or two before adding him to the active roster.

Treyton Welch's release was another move that raised some eyebrows. However, despite reportedly receiving offers from other teams, he decided to rejoin the Saints on the practice squad. The 6'4", 240 pound tight end is here to stay in New Orleans.
