Kellen Moore already made it clear Alvin Kamara showed up for one day of organized team activities and was never seen again until mandatory minicamps. The Times-Picayune’s Jeff Duncan made it clear how the New Orleans Saints felt about Kamara's one day stop. Per Duncan, it was viewed as a publicity stunt by many in the building
It very well could have been a publicity stunt, but it was also a message being sent. If nothing else, Kamara appeared to be letting the world know where he stands on a future in New Orleans. Publicity stunt or not, the decision on what to do with Kamara has drug on for much longer than is necessary. It sounds like the Saints felt Kamara showed them up with his arrival, if nothing else, and they didn't like it. He won that round.
This isn't the first time Duncan has written an article leaning towards parting ways with Kamara. Earlier in the offseason, Duncan wrote an extremely critical piece on the running back's decline in certain metrics. The article insisted the Saints are treating Kamara right directly after former Saint Tyrann Mathieu expressed the opposite opinion. Duncan's back at it again. This time, overtly calling for the team to part ways.
Alvin Kamara saw the article and fired backÂ
Kamara didn’t have to say Jeff Duncan’s name directly for Saints fans to know exactly who the running back was tweeting about. He actually didn’t even have to use his own words. Kamara just referenced a notable tweet from Michael Thomas about Duncan and a response to Duncan's most recent article from someone else.
Thomas famously checked Duncan during a media availability for an article he wrote and later called him a... well you can see it. Ever since then, it's been a common tweet for fans to refer back to. Kamara did the same, and that small reference told you exactly how he's feeling about Duncan's character and the motivations for the article.
The other person Kamara referenced is Matt Bowers who has been a friend of Kamara's and also notably a sponsor for NewOrleans.Football for years. Bowers went to social media to point out the difference in treatment between Kamara and Derek Carr in what seemed to be their closing moments.
Bowers pointed to the respect Carr was given on the way out the door being significantly higher than the respect Kamara is being shown now. He's completely correct, and if these are the final days of Kamara in a Saints uniform, it would be shameful. Kamara saying Bowers is funny is really a co-sign of the message.
Kamara is a franchise legend and his future has been in limbo for months. These Duncan articles create an image of a team that doesn't want Kamara but won't just come out and say it to anyone, publicly or privately. If anything, Mathieu's words ring even more true. Kamara deserves better.
