The middle linebacker position isn’t among the New Orleans Saints most pressing needs heading into the 2026 offseason, but it will become a priority in the near future. Adding Quay Walker could still provide a significant boost to the defense in the immediate and long term.
The Green Bay Packers middle linebacker is set to become a free agent in the spring. Walker's production and playoff experience over his first four seasons should put him on the Saints radar, though he’s expected to draw interest from several teams.
Adding Walker to the squad would only strengthen the defense and elevate the unit. He won't come cheap, but he also isn’t expected to demand a massive contract either. making him an intriguing option for the Saints to consider. It's an investment that would be more than worth it.
Quay Walker could be a valuable addition and key successor to Demario Davis
Quay Walker is former 2022 draft pick out of the University of Georgia. In the four seasons since, he's been a foundational piece of Green Bay's defense. He's recorded over 100 tackles in each of his four seasons and led the Packers in that category in every year.. Walker displayed his athleticism, sideline to sideline speed and ability to rack up tackles at a high volume, traits that would translate well to any defensive scheme.
At 25 years old, Walker still hasn’t yet reached his full potential. While he has been highly productive throughout his career, he hasn’t quite reached the All Pro level that some scouts projected coming out of college. Walker's size, speed, and instincts still gives him the tools to get there.
Pairing him with Saints veteran and multi All Pro Demario Davis could provide the perfect mentorship, giving Walker a chance to learn from one of the leagues best at the position. With Demario Davis in the final stages of his career, his return isn't guaranteed. If he does come back, adding Walker would not only strengthen the defense this season but also give New Orleans a longterm replacement and cornerstone for the future.
