The Miami Dolphins had a disappointing 2025 campaign, going 7-10 and missing the playoffs for the second straight season. This caused them to fire head coach Mike McDaniel, thus resulting in a complete roster turnover. They've already released Bradley Chubb and Tyreek Hill. A potential fire sale could lead to stars being traded as well. If running back De’Von Achane becomes available, the New Orleans Saints shouldn’t hesitate to get involved.
It’s important to note that this is all hypothetical. There haven’t been any rumors that Achane will become available, however, the Dolphins have had a flurry of recent moves that indicate they could be willing. In addition to cutting Hill and Chubb, the Dolphins are reportedly in trade talks about Minkah Fitzpatrick.
In all likelihood, Achane will be in Miami next season. However, it’s worth exploring the possibility and seeing how he would fit into Kellen Moore’s offense. Nothing is off the table with how the Dolphins are currently trending, though, so it's still a hypothetical worth diving into.
De’Von Achane is the explosive threat that the Saints offense needs
The Saints offense is currently lacking a dynamic threat at running back. Alvin Kamara isn’t the athlete he once was, Kendre Miller could be but can’t stay healthy, and Devin Neal isn’t that type of player. An explosive threat capable of breaking off a deep run was severely hampering the Saints' effectiveness in the run game.
The Saints haven’t had a run over 32 yards since the 2020 season. This is unacceptable in the current NFL landscape and is a major reason they haven’t been in a position to compete recently. This is exactly where Achane thrives, running a blazing 4.32 40-yard dash time at the 2023 NFL Scouting Combine. He would fit perfectly in this offense and could help elevate them to a playoff position in 2026.
Overall, Achane hasn’t officially hit the open market, but the Saints should jump at the opportunity to acquire him if he does. He would give them another dimension on offense with his explosiveness and long speed. Additionally, Achane would be a fantastic complement to the rest of the running back room.
