The Taysom Hill package is one that has gone stale for many New Orleans Saints fans. On Sunday, they might've gotten their wish to see less of it, because Kellen Moore cut Hill's snap count by more than half, even without Alvin Kamara in the picture.
Hill has seen an increased number of snaps the past couple of weeks. Against the Carolina Panthers in week 10, Hill saw 25 snaps, which was a season high for him up until his next game against the Atlanta Falcons, when he saw 26 snaps. However, the Saints didn't beat the Dirty Birds like they did the Panthers, leading even more to question Hill's usage. Thankfully for them, Moore was listening.
In Miami against the Dolphins, Hill only saw 12 snaps, which includes one rushing attempt for two yards and one catch on one target for five yards. Moore didn't give any specific reason as to why Hill's snap counts have dropped so dramatically, but last week after the loss to the Falcons, he did say that he would be looking to do everything he could to fix the red zone woes. "We're not getting it done. It's as simple as that. We're not scoring touchdowns down there... We have to find a way to get it done."
Taysom Hill has not been effective for the Saints in 2025
No one can really blame Kellen for using Taysom as much as he has been; I mean, even back when he was a player, Hill was known for being able to do more than your average player in the National Football League. Something fans can get mad at is the fact that, for some reason, Kellen just can't seem to figure out how to use a player that is known to be an enigma to defenses.
So far in 2025, Hill only has 71 rushing yards with one touchdown, four receptions for 23 yards, and 19 yards passing on five attempts. We haven't seen Hill be that ineffective since his early days with the team, when he was first starting to become the swiss-army knife that he is today.
Some of it may have to do with health and some of it is play calling. Regardless of where you want to point the finger, the end result has been ineffectiveness. Realizing the Saints needed to try something new was step one.
