The New Orleans Saints didn’t have the start to the season they hoped they would, losing 20-13 to the Arizona Cardinals, but the team managed to stay in the game until the end. New Orleans is now 0-1, but knows exactly what it needs to clean up to be a more competitive team moving forward.
During the game, there was a scary moment when New Orleans’ top wide receiver Chris Olave was on the receiving end of a big hit. Olave also took a trip to the medical tent, and fans feared the talented wideout had suffered another concussion. However, it was reported as a chest injury, and he did return to the game.
Following the game, first-year head coach Kellen Moore confirmed Olave was not evaluated for a concussion. Considering the wide receiver’s history, that’s one reason for Saints fans to exhale after the Week 1 loss.

Saints say Chris Olave was not evaluated for a concussion
Unfortunately, Olave has found himself on the receiving end of a lot of huge hits in his career, and they usually result in a concussion for the talented receiver. In 2024, the veteran wideout sustained two concussions in the span of a month, and was shut down for the season. That meant New Orleans only had it’s No. 1 receiver for eight games.
Those were also the third and fourth concussions of his NFL career, so Saints fans hold their breath every time Olave appears shaken up and heads to the injury tent. While he was evaluated for a chest injury, that he returned from, it’s great news he didn’t have to be evaluated for a concussion.
Olave ultimately finished the game with seven receptions for 54 yards, and was the favorite pass catcher for Spencer Rattler, with a team-high 13 targets. As he moves in to Week 2 healthy, he’ll try and help the Saints get in the win column.
