The New Orleans Saints have had their first injury of training camp. J.T. Gray went down with a lower body injury on the fifth day of practice and the first day in pads.
Gray’s injury was described as a slip, per The Times-Picayune’s Rod Walker. The Saints have been extremely healthy up until this point. The tone around this injury seems relatively optimistic.
You never want to see a player go down with an injury, but it’s part of the game. You can only hope they are minor injuries players can bounce back from quickly. This is especially true in relation to a player like J.T. Gray who is one of the Saints most valuable special team players.
Kellen Moore doesn’t seem concerned by J.T. Gray’s injury
Head coach Kellen Moore didn’t have many words on the injury, mostly because it just happened. In the few words he was able to give, Moore didn’t appear worried the injury would be a long-term injury. Moore told reporters he doesn't view the injury as “anything too bad.”
That shouldn’t be viewed as an official diagnosis. That’s just Moore making an inference that’s hopefully correct. After the team runs through tests there will be a clearer picture of what the team is dealing with.
Anytime you hear lower body injury you begin to get worried because of all the season ending injuries that fall under the umbrella. Sometimes it’s minor. Reports around Justin Fields had the world thinking he was done for the season. Things quickly got cleared up, Fields was back at practice as a full participant days later.
