The New Orleans Saints have heavily invested in their offensive line throughout the NFL Draft over the past few seasons. The investments seem to have paid off, particularly on the perimeter. After hitting on last year's first round pick, Taliese Fuaga. A repeat performance looks to be on the way in the form of Kelvin Banks Jr.

It's only the preseason, but Banks is already showing the Saints what they envisioned when they drafted him. A strong three game stretch has the future looking bright. The rookie already got a shoutout from Terron Armstead, and the Saints are closer to rebuilding the wall that defined the late 2010's offensive line.

The Saints are expecting their early draft selections to play key roles for the squad in 2025.  So far, their first round selection has displayed great potential and dominant flashes throughout the 2025 preseason.

Kelvin Banks gives Saints a glimpse of what the future could be

Banks has been the definition of fantastic in the 2025 preseason!  He displayed a strong first impression, showcasing his ability to be a consistent elite pass blocker, earning high PFF grades in pass protection.

He finished the entire preseason, without giving up a single sack, hurry, or pressure. He gave the coaching staff a large enough sample size for them to feel comfortable moving forward. He showed that the quarterback will be well protected on his side of the offensive line.

Banks has certainly been fantastic in pass protection but could find ways to improve as a run blocker. He finished with low PFF grades and needs to continue to develop this part of his game. His run blocking struggles shouldn’t alarm anyone, as the entire offensive line struggled to block efficiently during the preseason.

Saints first round selection looks primed to duplicate collegiate success in the NFL

Banks was a highly sought prospect entering the draft and was considered one of the best tackles and offensive lineman in his class.  He spent 3 years as a starter for the Texas Longhorns, where he had an incredible collegiate career earning several awards.

He was awarded the Outland Trophy in 2024 for being the nations top interior lineman.  He was also named a unanimous All American, to magnify how dominant he performed during his senior season. The Saints selected him with the 10th overall pick in 2025 NFL Draft after a strong career at Texas. His leadership and dominance on the field were traits that pulled the Saints in like a magnet.

Banks is looking to implement his collegiate success to the NFL. Although it won’t be easy, he has shown promising things on tape, for the Saints to feel comfortable down the line. The organization is excited about him and are looking forward to seeing him develop into a potential perennial All-Pro.
