NFL teams voted to allow professional players the opportunity to play flag football in the 2028 Summer Olympics. There are still hurdles the league needs to overcome to allow active players to participate, but there’s still plenty of time. Bleacher Report's Brad Gagnon isn’t waiting for that and released a list of potentially retired players who could make the cut. Two current Saints and two former ones were included as possibilities to make the roster.

Taysom Hill and Tyrann Mathieu's versatility would prove advantageous

Taysom Hill made the potential lineup as a receiver. Gagnon highlights his versatility and how important that is while playing flag football. Hill has experience throwing, running and catching the ball. He would impact the team in a variety of ways. Hill would likely be out of the league since he would be 38 years old.

However, he’s still dynamic as long as he recovers from his torn ACL. In the same section, Gagnon notes how Alvin Kamara would be a great option as well. Kamara would have made the roster but his retirement isn’t expected in the next three years.

Tyrann Mathieu was added on the defensive side. Gagnon names the Honey Badger as the playmaker on defense. He is capable of guarding most receivers and racking up interceptions. Mathieu is also a tremendous leader who would help the team off the field. He would be 36 years old at the time but still contains plenty of energy.

Former Saints who could make the Olympic team

Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Marshon Lattimore are former Saints who were added to the list. They both have great speed and would help the team on their respective sides. Neither of these players retiring by 2028 is guaranteed. Lattimore would be 32 years old and Valdes-Scantling would be 33. Getting up there, but still capable of playing in the NFL.

The 2028 Olympics are still a long ways away but anticipation is building for flag football. The United States would have a great roster, regardless of if active players are able to compete. If they aren’t, the Saints could be well represented.
