Former New Orleans Saints cornerback Paulson Adebo made his season debut for the New York Giants in their 21-6 defeat against the Washington Commanders. It didn't take long for Giants fans to question if they made the right call.

During the 2025 offseason, the Saints were faced with a thin salary cap.  This caused the Saints to lose their starting corner Paulson Adebo to the New York Giants, as they were unable to resign him.  He signed a 3 year $54 million contract.

Adebo spent 4 seasons with Saints, with the majority of his tenure as the Saints 2nd corner on the depth chart. Marshon Lattimore dealt with injuries throughout his final years, and that thrust Adebo into the role of the top guy.

Paulson Adebo posts a solid stat line but the film tells a different story

Adebo is coming off an injury of his own. Sunday was the cornerback's first game back from a broken femur that ended his 2024 campaign. He recorded 7 tackles and a pass break up in his Giants debut.  Adebo's stat line suggests that he had a solid outing.  However, the statistics are quite deceiving and don’t tell the full story.

There were a few plays where he was beaten in coverage but was fortunate that Jayden Daniel’s misfired on his targets. The most notable play was a deep misfire to Terry McLaurin that would’ve likely resulted in a 70 yard touchdown in which he was beaten in coverage.

Letting Adebo walk was the right call for the Saints

Although he didn’t have any major flaws on the stat sheet, he left many Giants fans upset on social media.  So far, the fan base is not happy with their new investment, as they have lingering concerns for the near future.

Adebo was solid during his stint in New Orleans as their number 2 corner.  However, a new and elevated role might not be the best fit for him.  The Saints would’ve loved to bring him back but the price was just too high, this influenced the squad to allow him to walk in free agency.
