The New Orleans Saints knew they weren't trending upwards during the 2024 regular season so it wasn't a surprise when they traded Marshon Lattimore ahead of the deadline. Lattimore was sent to the Washington Commanders, where he started two games during the regular season and three playoff games (including the NFC Championship).
Lattimore was the Saints' first-round pick in 2017 and had been a rockstar for them during his time in the Big Easy. Unfortunately, the last few years of his New Orleans tenure had been marred by injuries so trading him made sense because it allowed them to shed some cap space and pick up some draft capital in the process. As mentioned, Lattimore dealt with injuries while with the Saints and those followed him to DC, causing him to miss the first few weeks of action with his new team.
The Saints acquired three draft selections from the Commanders in exchange for Lattimore, with all of three of them being 2025 picks, one in the third round, one in the fourth round, and one in the sixth round. We now know who the Saints got in the Lattimore trade so let's break it down.
Saints Day 3 draft pick completes Marshon Lattimore trade with Commanders
Saints received:
- Pick 93 in 2025 NFL Draft
- Pick 131 in 2025 NFL Draft
- Pick 184 in 2025 NFL Drafft
The third-round pick that New Orleans acquired in this deal turned into Virginia safety Jonas Sinker, the fourth-rounder was Louisville cornerback Quincy Riley, and the sixth and final pick acquired in the Lattimore deal ended up being Kansas running back Devin Neal. We'll have to see how these draft picks end up doing in the Big Easy.
Commanders received:
- Marshon Lattimore
- 2025 fifth-rounder
The Commanders, of course, received Lattimore but also landed New Orleans' fifth-rounder in this trade. They used that pick to help acquire Deebo Samuel from the 49ers, which was a steal of a deal. Samuel gives Jayden Daniels a lethal weapon to throw to and the Commanders didn't have to give up much to land him.
So, this trade ended up being the Saints getting three draft picks while the Commanders got Lattimore and eventually Samuel. They're definitely the frontrunners in the trade right now but it'll take a few years to see how these picks pan out for New Orleans.
