Foster Moreau's bleak postgame comments show Saints mindset after losing six straight

After a sixth straight loss, the New Orleans Saints will now face their toughest test yet: keeping hope alive. Technically speaking, their season is far from over. With nine games left, New Orleans could win out and finish the year 11-6. That’s a really good record. Even if the Saints drop a game, 10-7 gets them into the postseason, and that’s the goal.

Unfortunately, it’s hard to believe this is possible after losing six games in a row. Believing is the first step, so if there’s no belief, there certainly won’t be a second-half push from New Orleans.

The Saints don’t seem like they’ve completely lost belief yet, but they do seem like they’re getting close. This was evident in a disheartening postgame quote from tight end Foster Moreau.

Moreau was asked is it easy to lose sight of doing the right things when the team has lost six straight games. The veteran tight end responded by saying you lose sight of everything. He then gave a depressing quote that, unfortunately, perfectly encapsulates New Orleans’ season so far.

That certainly sounds like a team that doesn’t see a way out of the current darkness it’s stuck in. However, Moreau immediately followed that statement up by saying the team can’t live in that mindset. He then went on a bit of a rant that was as encouraging as the last statement was depressing.

Moreau said players need to believe in the magic of the game every time they take the field. He said if you don’t believe in the magic of the sport, you’ll lose all joy and hope, and will just show up pathetic every game day to do a job.

Moreau is trying to make sure he and his teammates don’t lose sight of that, because he knows the second they stop believing, is the second the season will essentially be over.
