Earlier this week, the New Orleans Saints claimed two players off of the NFL's waiver wire. Called by former Saints linebacker, Scott Shanle, the best waiver claim of any team, former Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Trey Palmer is already generating excitement.

Palmer is yet another speedy receiver that can now be found in the Saints' wide receiver room. He ran a 4.33 40-yard dash at the 2023 NFL combine. Taken in the sixth round out of Nebraska by the Buccaneers back in 2023, he has notched respectable numbers in his first two seasons in the NFL, gathering 51 receptions for 557 yards and four touchdowns. Last year, he had zero drops.

The Kentwood, LA native says that it'll be fun for him to run out onto the field in the Superdome. "It's going to be like I'm home again," He said to the media. "I played in there three years out of my four times in high school. So, this is like home."

The New Orleans Saints offense is insanely fast

Every wide receiver in New Orleans is incredibly quick. The "slowest" man in the room is recently acquired Deevaughn Vele, who ran a 4.47 in the 2024 NFL scouting combine. Rashid Shaheed is far and away the fastest, although he never got to run a 40-yard dash due to injury. However, he did tell the media in California that he did run a 10.7 second 100-meter dash.

First-year head coach Kellen Moore said that the speed is something the team will have to lean into. "Certainly, that's something that's popped up throughout training camp, those guys having the ability to get downfield," He said to the media. "It's something we'll have to utilize for sure."

Moore also said that it wasn't necessarily his intention to go out and get all of the speedsters. "I think it just happens as you're accumulating talented players, and there are a number of different ways you can go about it."
