Many people have had many things to say about quarterback Spencer Rattler's 2025 debut. Former New Orleans Saints head coach Jim Mora is hopping on the Rattler hype train.
The New Orleans Saints hall of famer told WDSU's Fletcher Mackel that he thought the second-year quarterback was more than okay. "I would put him in the next step up to being good. I don't think he was just okay," Mora said. "I think under the circumstances, first game, he basically played just five games a year ago. He's not an experienced guy, not a veteran guy, but he played with a lot of confidence. I thought he did pretty good."
Mora definitely knows a thing or two about what is and is not a good QB in the National Football League. A former head coach of the Saints and Indianapolis Colts, he's had the opportunity to coach quarterbacks ranging from Bobby Hebert to Peyton Manning.
Playoffs?! Saints QB Spencer Rattler hasn't even won a game yet as a starter
Following the loss to the Arizona Cardinals last Sunday, New Orleans Saints quarterback Spencer Rattler has now lost all seven of his last starts in the NFL. His best chance to remove that goose egg comes this weekend, against the San Francisco 49ers, who have suffered injuries to their star QB and tight end. However, the Niners' defense, considered to be one of the best in the league, is still as healthy as can be.
Rattler is well aware of the dangers that the San Francisco defense can bring. "They're very fast; they got a lot of speed on the field. They get to sideline to sideline really well." He said to the media. "Obviously, there's Fred Warner, who's one of the best in the league, and obviously there's (Nick) Bosa on the edge as well."
Sometimes, great quarterbacks have slow starts. Peyton Manning lost the first four games of his career and still holds the rookie record for most interceptions thrown in a season (28). Mora was the head coach for that season, so he certainly understands patience.
Time will tell where Rattler will end up on the greatness scale. His game next Sunday against the 49ers will just be another test for the young QB. For now, he has a fan in Mora.
