The New Orleans Saints fell short against the Arizona Cardinals in the first game of the Kellen Moore era. The game came down to the wire, a few shots from Spencer Rattler to the end zone hit the ground. They weren't the only NFC South team to lose the game at the wire, and the Atlanta Falcons' kicker Younghoe Koo missed a game-tying field goal versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
If it's one thing you can always count on, it's the Falcons coughing up a lead. Atlanta took the lead slightly before the two minute warning with a touchdown. The Buccaneers immediately responded with a touchdown of their own. On the final play, the Falcons had a chance to tie the game, but fell short in true Falcons fashion.
The ending to the Falcons game was objectively much funnier than the closing moments of the Saints game, and only a Falcons fan would disagree with the statement. Though Koo missed the field goal, he was also the comic relief.
Younghoe Koo's misery is meme worthy
Not only did Koo miss the game-tying field goal, he had a great reaction to the miss. There was no doubt in the kicker's mind. He knew he wasn't making that field goal from the moment the ball hit his foot.
Typically, kickers will watch the ball, especially in big moments like this. Before the ball even got close to the uprights, Koo turned around and dropped to his knees in despair. There was no question he knew what just happened. By the time, the ball made it to the uprights, Koo was already face down on the ground.
The Falcons may move on from Koo
Koo has been with Atlanta since 2019m but there's a chance that's the last image of him in a Falcons jersey. The team brought in John Parker Romo Tuesday morning. He's on the practice squad, but after Raheem Morris' post game comments, a gameday elevation is certainly a possibility.
Morris told the media, "we've got to make those kicks. Those are great, makeable kicks and we have to lock in and make those kicks and get it done." Koo didn't. Morris also said it's competitive every week. At the worst, the kicker is on thin ice. We won't laugh at someone losing their job. The Falcons losing and Koo's reaction to the miss is a completely different story.
