Erik McCoy just called out everything wrong with the New Orleans Saints after their disheartening loss to the Minnesota Vikings. The Saints have a lot of issues on the offensive side of the ball, and McCoy may have highlighted each one, then capped it off with how much of a disgrace the recent performances have been to the home crowd.
McCoy may describe himself as a negative Nancy, but you don’t have to be a negative Nancy to see what’s going on here. McCoy would have to be delusional to not see it, and calling it out is the reason he’s a captain.
This team is headed in the wrong direction, and things like flat performances, turnover issues and ugly games offensively are the leading reasons why. The last three games have all been at home, and “that (expletive) is not okay” to McCoy. And hopefully he’s not alone.
Solving Erik McCoy's issues with the Saints offense has to start with Kellen Moore

The biggest indictment, of many McCoy made, is the team needs a fire lit underneath them. The last three weeks have been ugly, but Sunday looked flat from start to finish. It looked like they took the Monday night beating and carried the same energy from the end of the game to the beginning of this one.
The lack of fire traces directly back to Kellen Moore, as do the offensive inefficiencies McCoy also laid out. There’s a level of self motivation, but Moore doesn’t have any fire or grit to him. That can easily trickle down to the team.
Teams can take on the identity of the team, and these flat, dry, lethargic performances look like a team that’s checked out at times. On Sunday, it just never felt like the offense was there.
When a captain is saying “we need a fire lit under” us, the coach has to step up and do it. Unfortunately, Moore’s outward personality begs the question if he has it in him to do it. If not him, then who?
Additionally, the Saints aren’t getting enough yards early in the set of downs or they’re setting themselves back with penalties. Now, they’re in too many long situations that puts more stress on the offense, and specifically the offensive line.
The Saints have 7 turnovers committed by the offense in the last three games, 8 turnovers by the team when including a Jayden Price kickoff return fumble. That’s bad football. The turnovers were the clear cause of the loss to the Raiders, and while it wasn’t the top reason in the next two games, you aren’t winning games playing like that.
It’s been bad throws, poor protection on the front line and flat out fumbles. Too many causes to identify one fix. The Saints have a turnover problem, and we’ll be talking about many more losses until they get it solved.
