Things haven’t been the same for the New Orleans Saints since Drew Brees retired. The franchise hasn’t made the postseason since the legendary quarterback called it a career, and everyone wishes the franchise could recapture the magic it had when Brees was under center.
While he certainly won’t be suiting back up, he is offering the team some advice as it tries to get things turned around. With New Orleans starting it’s coaching search, Brees recently made a couple of suggestions about who should be the team’s next head coach.
Speaking with Crissy Froyd, the former quarterback revealed that Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn would be his top pick.
"The first guy who comes to my mind is Aaron Glenn. Arguably, one of the greatest defensive backs to ever play the game. I played against him, I was a teammate of his too. He's a leader of men. He garners a ton of respect. He knows the game. He is highly competitive."Drew Brees (Saints Wire)
Drew Brees says he’d pick Aaron Glenn to be the Saints head coach
Brees, who competed against Glenn, played with him, and witnessed him as a defensive backs coach on New Orleans’ staff, praised him for his ability to interact with players and teach. He concluded his statement by saying he thinks Glenn could put together a quality staff that would get the most out of the roster.
Glenn’s name has been connected to the open position in New Orleans since Dennis Allen was fired. The team will interview him, but so will several other teams that have openings. If the Saints miss out on Glenn, Brees knows another direction the franchise should consider.
The future Hall of Famer named Klint Kubiak as a great in-house option, saying he loves his offense. It’s unclear if Kubiak will be a candidate, but Aaron Glenn definitely is, so it’ll be interesting to see if New Orleans chooses Drew Brees’ first pick.
