New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees has finally reached the Hall of Fame, something that has been no question for at least the past decade. In an emotional speech, he showed once again why he is one of one.
Spending 15 of his 20-year career with the Saints, Brees broke numerous records. Considered one of the most accurate QBs of all time, he just had a pinpoint accuracy that would tear defenses apart. Currently, he ranks second all-time in passing yards (80,358), passing touchdowns (571), and pass completions (7,142).
However, Brees gave much more to the city of New Orleans than just a good football team. When he arrived in 2006, he was able to get life back in a city that was still recovering from Hurricane Katrina. As the Saints' QB, he truly loved the city, and the city really did love him right back.

In his HOF speech, Brees acknowledged that the city had been through a lot. "Storms teach us that the greatest treasures aren't the things that we own; they're the people we love and the way we show up for one another," he said. "
Sometimes it takes losing the things that can be replaced to truly appreciate the things that can't. New Orleans, you accepted me, you embraced me, and you believed in me, but more importantly, you trusted me with the soul of the city. I would have died for that calling."
Brees was so beloved in New Orleans that he could walk through Uptown after practices at Yulman Stadium. It's not something that many players did, but while it was eyebrow-raising to the outside looking in, it's something that probably won't surprise many Saints fans.
Brees truly embraced the community when that kind of love was desperately needed after a national tragedy. At a time when it needed help with getting its life back on track, Brees gave the city his as a return. The two are now forever connected by a thread, one that's been attached ever since that 2006 season.
