Drew Brees was public enemy number one in Philadelphia Eagles fan bases after multiple comments on ESPN's First Take. Now a part of the FOX gameday broadcasts, it feels like ages ago that the former New Orleans Saints quarterback was on the show. When he was, however, the most noise he made came from criticizing the defending Super Bowl champions.

Brees called the Philadelphia offense boring in September. "I respect Philly. They're finding ways to win games. I can't stand to watch that offense," the future Hall of Famer said before labeling the Eagles as "the most boring offense." Months later, Brees gave a more in depth analysis of the offense straying from their formula for success and not looking like what we're used to.

Brees tried to warn everyone about the Eagles, and it's unclear how the message was received by the masses due to the vocal nature of Eagles fans. Their response was loud and furious. It painted Brees' analysis as clickbait-y and unfounded. Now, he gets to sit back like the Brian Windhorst meme looking at everyone in Philly.

Eagles proved Drew Brees right against the 49ers

As was the case when Brees played the Eagles, Brees once again had the last laugh. Everything he said, came to fruition in the Eagles' playoff loss to the San Francisco 49ers. The offense was largely ineffective and unpleasant to watch. They got things going in the run game at times, but it was a struggle through the air.

Philadelphia finished the day with as many drives without a first down as they did scoring drives. Brees said he was "shocked" the Eagles were 5-2 seven games through the season. Winning doesn't cure everything. It just masks it. The idea is to keep elevating as you win in ugly games.

When the lights were the brightest, the Eagles showed they hadn't elevated. Whether it was penalties, drops, or flat out poor all around execution, the Eagles weren't good enough offensively. The defense made plays, but the offensive struggles Brees saw at the beginning of the season are the things that cost them that game. The frustration pointed at Brees is now pointed at their own team. I guess Drew Brees knows a little something about this football thing.
