The New Orleans Saints nearly pulled off an incredible comeback in Week 15, before ultimately falling 20-19 to the Washington Commanders. When the Saints were down 17-0 in the third quarter, two people ignited the comeback attempt: rookie quarterback Spencer Rattler, putting together a promising half, and star running back Alvin Kamara who made a spectacular one-handed touchdown catch for New Orleans’ first points of the day.

Unfortunately, the veteran running back wasn’t available for the duration of the comeback attempt, as he was captured heading to the locker room shortly after his score. Initially, there weren’t many details on why he went to the locker room, but he was eventually ruled as questionable to return with a groin injury.

Kamara didn’t return, and after the game, interim head coach Darren Rizzi confirmed that the star running back has a groin issue that he sustained on the touchdown catch. The interim head coach said he didn’t have many other details, other than that Kamara was getting imaging tests done.

Alvin Kamara sustains groin injury against Commanders

Key players going down with injuries has unfortunately been the theme of the Saints season this year. A week ago, it was Derek Carr suffering a hand injury, and a week prior to that, it was Taysom Hill injuring his knee. Other key starters like Chris Olave, Rashid Shaheed, and Paulson Adebo have already been on injured reserve for a while.

Kamara has been able to stay on the field, starting all 14 games this season, but he has dealt with multiple injuries as well. This season, the veteran running back has played through a broken hand and broken ribs, as well as a hip injury. While a groin injury is much different, it’s safe to assume Kamara will suit up if he can.

Hopefully, he’ll be able to, because he’s having his most productive season yet. Kamara has a career high 950 rushing yards on the season, six rushing touchdowns, and 68 receptions for 543 yards and an additional touchdown. He’s also leading the team in rushing and receiving yards. Now with three games left in the regular season, it’s unclear if the Saints will have their leader to close out the year.
