Kellen Moore told us that he'd have an update on Cam Jordan this week. He stayed true to his word, but New Orleans Saints fans aren't going to like what he said. Jordan may be feeling better than he did a month ago, but he still isn't at a point where he can suit up for live action, putting more pressure on Chase Young and Carl Granderson.
It's only Wednesday, but Jordan has already been ruled out of the Saints season opener. Either the team is being cautious due to the nature of hamstring injuries and this is simply part of the plan, or Jordan's body simply isn't ready yet. Either one is possible, and we'll have to wait to see how the next couple of weeks transpire.
All we know for now is this is a huge hit for the Saints pass rush. Jordan came out of nowhere last season to end with double digit sacks. Together, he and Chase Young were hoping to have a repeat performance of 2025 and this time play with each other for all 17 games.
Cam Jordan's absence puts an even greater spotlight on Chase Young
No Jordan means more is required from Young. He's coming off the best year of his career, and the fact he did it after missing the first five games creates even more excitement for what 2026 has in store.
Those missed games kept him from being the team leader in sacks, but that is the expectation for Young this season, with or without Jordan. The pressure on him to live up to the hype is just greater due to Jordan being unable to play this week.
The Saints will need to get after Jared Goff and stop Jahmyr Gibbs from getting around the edge. In addition to being the best pass rusher, Young is also a good run defender. There isn't a way to overstate just how important he is to the team's success in
Jordan was also both of those things. It's what made the duo such a valuable pairing. Young won't be able to make up for Jordan's run defense, since he only play one side, but the Saints will need Chase Young to be the pass rusher he showed himself to be last season.
Granderson is also included in the players who need to step up. With Jordan out, he's going to see even more time. This is going to be a tough game to do it, seeing that he'll be lined up against Penei Sewell pretty much every down.
It's a tough matchup, and would have been a less than ideal, tough battle for Jordan go straight into fresh off of injury. Because of the degree of difficulty Granderson is facing, there's even more weight on Young to put pressure on the quarterback.
