Cameron Jordan is one of the oldest remaining defensive players in the NFL at 36 years old.  He will suit up for his 229th career game for the New Orleans Saints in their week 3 matchup against the Seattle Seahawks, surpassing Drew Brees for the most games played in franchise history.

“No, I don’t think it means a darn think, actually. To play 229 games, one more than Drew played, that’s awesome. At the same time, it’s a combination of being blessed and highly favored as well as the luck of the draw to be able to play this many games,” Jordan stated, when asked about his big accomplishment.

Leading an NFL franchise in total games played is a huge honor, as it reflects on not only exceptional talent, but remarkable durability and consistency.  His leadership, relentless motor, and consistent production made him the heart and soul of the Saints defense and he remains one of the most respected defensive player in the league.

A legacy of greatness in black & gold

Jordan has had a decorated career, playing 15 seasons in the NFL, all proudly in a Saints uniform.  Throughout his career, he managed to earn several accolades , including 8 Pro Bowl selections, 3 All Pros, and being selected to the 2010s All Decade Team.  He’s recorded 720 tackles, 162 tackles for a loss, and 123 sacks.  He’s only missed two games in his entire career, a reflection of his toughness, durability, and dedication to the game.

His impact goes beyond the stat sheet, as he set a high standard for excellence, year after year. Jordan became the emotional anchor of the defense, uplifting the culture and mentoring young players that came into the organization.  He represented the team in the community and on the football field.

Cam Jordan surpasses Drew Brees as the new iron man

Surpassing Brees for most games played in franchise history is no small feat.  It speaks volumes on his longevity and commitment to New Orleans. Brees is widely regarded as the best player to put on a Saints uniform, who will be a future first ballot Hall of Famer. It makes even more astonishing for Jordan to surpass this total, playing in the trenches as a defensive is one of the most demanding positions as it takes a major toll on your body.

When the time comes, Jordan will retire as a Saints Hall of Famer. His legacy in New Orleans is solidified and he has earned a seat at the table for NFL Hall of Fame conversations.  He will always be a fan favorite and remembered as a player who always gave 100% and embodied everything that it meant to be a Saint.
