Cam Jordan will never miss a chance to take a shot at former New Orleans Saints defensive line coach Todd Grantham. Matter of fact, he’ll even manufacture opportunities to tell the world how terrible of a coach Grantham is. Case in point: Jordan jumped into a social media post about Bryan Bresee to take a shot at Grantham.
In a post about how Bresee doesn’t get discussed properly and could be in line for a breakout year, Jordan stepped in to big up his teammate. “Bresee a dog!!! He can win off the first two steps,” he responded. “If he had had a competent dl coach he’d didn have to overcome his first two yrs, he’d have developed even more.” Take a guess at who was Bresee’s defensive line coach for his first two seasons.
This season gives a bit of credence to Jordan’s point. Bresee had his standout year under Grantham, recording a career-high 7.5 sacks. That’s what we knew he could do though. In Year 3, Bresee took a leap as a run defender, a previous weakness. While the sack numbers dipped, it’s fair to say he developed into more of a complete player once Grantham left.
Todd Grantham is Cam Jordan’s public enemy No. 1
It’s hard to keep track of Jordan’s history of animosity towards Grantham with this many shots. In his press conference announcing his return to the Saints, Jordan still found time to let the media know Grantham wasted a year of his time. When asked what happened to retiring after Year 15, Jordan joked that his year at defensive tackle doesn’t count.
He has also previously called Grantham the worst D-Line coach he’s ever had to former teammate Terron Armstead. Jordan is a pretty vocal guy, but most times it’s humor attached. Not here. It’s legitimate vitriol every time he speaks on Grantham.
There was a lot more than lack of success that deteriorated this relationship, but Jordan was having the worst season of his career with Grantham coaching the position. He had 0 sacks prior to Grantham being moved out of the role. Jordan rattled off four sacks afterwards.
Even going back to the year prior, Jordan’s sack numbers dipped significantly. If you take out Jordan’s rookie season and two years with Grantham, he hasn’t had less than 7.5 sacks. Jordan had 8.5 the year before, and he showed he still had something left in the tank with 10.5 sacks last year.
