Cam Jordan just said what every New Orleans Saints fan was thinking. “We just need to establish the run.” Jordan is as optimistic as they come and spent a minute hyping up the team individually, but even he couldn’t hold his tongue on the rushing attack.

Running the football may be the one thing that it's impossible to defend the Saints on this year, especially after last week. Jordan may be optimistic to a fault, and the fact that even he admitted it shows just how bad the Saints run game has fallen.

Kellen Moore’s success has often came down to whether or not his team can run the ball

Moore has had a strong history of good offenses and good running games. The one destination he flat out failed at was the Los Angeles Chargers, and they couldn’t run the ball.

The Chargers had Justin Herbert just like the Saints have Tyler Shough, but it simply wasn’t enough. Guess what? It’s exactly like that in New Orleans.

Really good quarterback with lackluster running game hasn’t worked for Moore. Meanwhile, Dak Prescott and Jalen Hurts have been questioned throughout their years, and Moore has found success with them and a running game. That’s been the best offense.

Unfortunately, the Saints are looking, and feeling, more like Moore's Chargers than the Cowboys or Eagles' offenses with Moore at the helm. He spent just one year in Los Angeles, and his time in New Orleans could be brief as well. It can be connected back to the run game.

Moore understands the value of a running game, and he expressed it as a catalyst for signing Travis Etienne Jr. “Historically, the best teams traditionally have ran the football pretty well. Those are the best offenses and the most consistent offenses," Moore said.

Well, two months into the season and the Saints are an inconsistent offense that can’t run the football. It was an accurate correlation by Moore, but the team hasn’t lived by it. Even before Etienne was injured, his workload was questionable.

The Saints don’t establish the run with either frequency or efficiency. The performance vs the Steelers was rock bottom and should serve as a wake up call.

The team has been bad at running the ball all year, but you can’t ignore 18 yards on 17 carries. After a bye week, how the Saints respond on the ground will say a lot about this team. It’s the type of performance that can define the season for better or worse, and the back half of the campaign will tell if the Saints are writing a comeback story or if this is just who they’re going to be in 2026.
