The New Orleans Saints and their star defensive end, Cam Jordan, have been at an impasse for weeks now, with the end nowhere in sight. Now, it's looking like an even more tense situation.
Thursday night, Jordan posted a cryptic message on social media that may or may not be about his contract negotiations. "R-E-S-P-E-C-T shows… neglect grows… imma keep working towards a better version of me."
Jordan went on Terron Armstead's The Set two weeks ago and essentially said the same thing. The common theme is if the cents don't make sense, then he understands the business side of the league. While Jordan's social media post is only a continuance of what the Who Dat Nation has seen over the past few weeks, it is becoming more troubling. For now, there appears to be a bit of animosity coming from the long-time Saint.
Saints' decision on Cam Jordan may not come until after the draft
The negotiations between the two have taken so long at this point that if they do come to an agreement, it might not be until after the draft, which is still three weeks away. Despite the long timeline, however, it might make the most sense for the Saints and their future Ring of Honor member at this point.
The same goes for any other team that might be interested in Jordan's services as well. Right now, teams in the league are probably more focused on the younger players that they could add to their team rather than a veteran who might be out of the league in a few years' time. Any player selected in the draft would likely be cheaper than anything that Jordan might be asking for. Additionally, it would help teams better understand what Jordan's role could be for them in 2026.
No matter what happens, though, the Saints still need to grab another edge rusher in the draft. If Jordan is here, they'll need someone that can help fill the void he'll leave when he eventually retires. Just in general, the opportunity to have a first-round edge rusher learning from one of the best to ever play the position is one that the Saints can't pass up. Furthermore, if Jordan isn't playing in New Orleans next year, they'll need that player anyway.
