Despite the 21 to 17 loss in Miami to the Dolphins on Sunday, New Orleans Saints defensive end Cameron Jordan managed to earn $600,000 worth of incentives on the day, making him the player of the game.
It's due to the fact that he earned his fifth and sixth sacks of the season on Sunday afternoon, both of which earned him $300K each. With both sacks in the first half of the game, Jordan's sacks were one of the few positive things to note through the first 30 minutes of play in the sunshine state.
Following the game, Jordan was asked about what it felt like earning the incentives. "I'm not going to lie to you; that's not my goal. My goal is to win, and right now we're sitting at 2-10," he responded. "The team has always incentivized some part of my contract, but I've never once played for those incentives. Although they'll be great, and with avoiding the politics of the contract, I say just give me what I got for services rendered and let me continue to ball."
NFL Hall of Famer Rickey Jackson now has some company on the all-time sack list
Cam Jordan did more than earn himself hundreds of thousands of dollars on Sunday. Along with the money, he is now tied with Saints and NFL Hall of Fame Linebacker Rickey Jackson in career sacks, with 127. However, unlike Jackson, all of Jordan's sacks have all been with the black and gold.
The two sacks against a rookie guard, Jordan said that you have to take advantage when you can. "You knew he was going to bite; he was already playing for it," Jordan said to the media. "So after that, it was all about collecting."
A future Hall of Famer himself, it doesn't seem like Jordan would care to know right now that he passed one current Hall of Famer, linebacker Derrick Thomas, and tied another on Sunday, especially if the Saints didn't even win. For now, all of his focus is on one thing: winning.
