The New Orleans Saints stacked the offense around Tyler Shough. There's no doubt about it. The Saints went nearly all offense in the draft. They made the discrepancy between offense and defense closer at the end of the draft, but Christen Miller is the only one who's expected to make an impact on the defense immediately.
After the three days of action, the Saints walked out of the daft with the same number of picks they walked in with. The Tyree Wilson trade turned a fifth round pick into a seventh round pick, but the Saints didn't trade up or down during the event.
Now that it's all over, the entire Who Dat Dish team takes a look at the picks and gives their biggest takeaway from the Saints' draft haul.
Saints' draft was all about Tyler Shough
Offense over everything
The New Orleans Saints made it clear that they’re prioritizing surrounding Tyler Shough with weapons. Five of their eight draft picks were spent on pass catchers, including three wide receivers and two tight ends. This signals a major investment in the passing game and a clear commitment to offensive growth moving forward this season~ Tramell Jeffers
Tyler Shough is the guy
The New Orleans Saints showcased their belief in Tyler Shough during the NFL Draft. They surrounded the sophomore quarterback with weapons, adding four pass catchers and a lineman. Their heavy investment on offense proves they believe Shough can lead them to the promised land. Now, only time will tell if they are right.~ Drew Collings
Saints believe in their defense
The New Orleans Saints showed through the draft this year that they’re confident in the defensive players they already have on the team. Players on that side of the ball only made up 38% of the draftees this year, the lowest percentage since 2020, when they took no defensive players at all.~ Molly Bauer
Barion Brown checks special teams box in a major way
With Rashid Shaheed being traded in the middle of last season, the Saints had a void in the return game. Mason Tipton had some flashes, but there was still an investment that needed to be made in that department. In the sixth round, the Saints picked Barion Brown. He had six kickoff return touchdowns in his career, including 3 in 2023. Brown is poised to continue the streak of dynamic returners in New Orleans.~ Darrion Gray
