Alvin Kamara is a New Orleans Saint for life. He eliminated what little doubt there was after practice on Thursday. He made it clear, either he’s a Saint or he’s retired. Kamara is already a franchise great, but this just cemented it.
There has been speculation about the Saints trading their veteran talent, Kamara being one of these rumors. He’s been open about his desire to stay in New Orleans, but reaffirmed the media and fanbase again with an all-time great quote.
“If I was a GM, I guess I would go to the player and say, ‘Hey, we’re trading you, just so you know.’” Kamara said, “So if Mickey comes down and says that, I’m going to go drink a pina colada somewhere.”
Alvin Kamara isn’t focusing rumors, his attention is turned towards the field
It’s easy to get caught up in these rumors and begin to focus less on the field. However, Kamara isn’t concerning himself with these. All of his attention is locked in on performing the best he possibly can.
“I don’t want to go anywhere, and I’ve said it countless times. Y’all know that, I think everybody knows that, the fan base knows that,” Kamara said, “At the end of the day, it’s business. I don’t go upstairs, I don’t have an office upstairs, … so I don’t really sit in those meetings, I don’t know what happens up there. I’ve just got to keep my head down.”
Kamara is having yet another great season despite being 30 years old. He has 314 yards on the ground plus 122 more through the air. He’s still a focal point in the offense. Even with Kendre Miller emerging, Kamara is the clear lead back. He’s shown that he can still be productive while aging. There’s a real possibility he’s still a quality contributor for a couple more years in New Orleans.
Fans should be ecstatic, a franchise cornerstone isn’t leaving. He’d rather retire than go elsewhere. Regardless of how the rest of his career goes, Alvin Kamara is a franchise legend.
