There's no question Tyler Shough is the New Orleans Saints quarterback, and signs say that'll be the case for years to come. Alvin Kamara's latest comments about the quarterback proves he's not only ready to take the next step forward, but Kellen Moore and Shough's teammates all trust him to take that jump.
Kamara told reporters, "(Moore) and Tyler are a lot more comfortable, so he's giving Tyler some reign to fix problems" at the line of scrimmage. He does add that Moore is also doing a good job of fixing issues before they even become problems so Shough doesn't have to.
It just doesn't always work that way, so it's encouraging that Shough has the awareness to get the Saints out of disadvantageous positions before the ball is even snapped. Some young quarterbacks just run the play as it's called in the early portion of their career. Ma could be the extended college experience for Shough helps that transition.

Moore giving Shough more control over the offense this early is a great sign, but it’s just one side of the franchise quarterback coin. The other side is being the leader the franchise needs. Per Kamara, Shough already has that taken care of too.Â
Shough has the full respect of his teammates as the leader of the franchise. It doesn't matter that he's only started 9 games or been in the league for only a year. Kamara shut down the time on task argument.
"I always tell people the years don't matter. It's who respects who. The team respects Tyler, so he's one of those leaders."
Kamara has typically had a finger on the pulse of the locker room, so while his word isn't law, it does typically represent the general feeling within the team. He mentioned how Moore has empowered Shough to use his voice more, and how Shough seems more comfortable speaking up for what he wants this year.
It’s not just Kamara saying it. Shough’s growth as a leader has been a common talking point this offseason. Whether it's command of the offense or respect as a leader, Shough has grown greatly going in both facets going into a pivotal season for the quarterback.
