Alvin Kamara was present at New Orleans Saints mandatory minicamp. It shouldn't come as much of a surprise seeing that it's mandatory. However, it's still a welcomed sight with the constant questions surrounding his future taking over the offseason.
This is only the second time the Saints have seen Kamara during the offseason. There was a huge uproar when Kamara showed up for the second day of open organized team activities. When media was present a week later, Kellen Moore told reporters that was the only day Kamara was in the building.
The uncertainty around Kamara didn't disappear just because he showed up for a day of voluntary OTAs. It did show he was invested, however. A player showing up to mandatory minicamp shouldn't be a story, but with everything being up in the air, this could have easily been a time for Kamara to send a message.
Pay cut or no pay cut for Alvin Kamara?
Hopefully, Kamara's presence is an indicator that we're close to seeing a concrete decision on his future. It appears we're close to seeing the Cam Jordan negotiations come to an end. Maybe the same could be said for the Saints and Kamara. Fans are hoping both of those decisions lead to the veterans staying with the Saints.
In Kamara's case, we all assume a pay cut is the Saints' desired outcome. Most importantly, it feels both sides want Kamara on the team. The biggest assumed reservation is the cost of keeping him on the roster.
The Saints don't need Kamara to take a pay cut in order for him to financially fit on the roster, even if they'd like him to take one. They've already allocated the funds, and it's doubtful they'd do anything useful with the money this offseason anyway.
Kamara is under no obligation to agree to a pay cut either. Seeing that the Saints don't need him to take one in order to guarantee his spot on the roster, they could come out and make it clear the plan is to keep Kamara while still negotiating in the background.
Kellen Moore has given generic answers that don't sound like true responses to many questions about Kamara. There is likely truth in his statements, but Moore's words always sound like it's an unresolved situation. Once those stop and it feels like the transparency is equal to them saying there's a contract on the table for Jordan, then it'll feel like the situation is truly over.
