The ball has been in the New Orleans Saints' court when deciding Alvin Kamara's future with the team for a while now. Kamara showing up to voluntary organized team activities reinforces that but also puts a greater spotlight on the timeline of making a decision.
Kamara never shows up for voluntary OTAs. He's too smart of a guy to not know what showing up at this time means. It sent the message that he's fully locked in, but it also feels like an ultimatum moment. It's time to make a decision on what we're doing.
Tyrann Mathieu said he believes the Saints want Kamara to make the decision for them, so they don't have to be the ones to choose to part ways. If that's the case, Kamara isn't giving the franchise that luxury. Days after a statement from his agent revealed the plan is for Kamara to play in New Orleans this year. Kamara broke a well known trend of his. He's clearly applying pressure. If he isn't playing for the Saints, it isn't because Kamara didn't want to do it.
Mickey Loomis and Kellen Moore can't hide behind non-answers about Alvin Kamara anymore
The situation with Kamara has been going on for too long. Loomis said they hope to have a decision made within the next week or two, 2 weeks ago. It feels like a resolution is overdue, and both parties being in the same vicinity could be the pressure needed to come to a resolution quickly.
"We love Alvin," doesn't work anymore. Speaking on what he means to the organization and city doesn't work anymore. For the most part, this is how Kellen Moore has spoken about Kamara. It was a lot of words but not a lot of information. Understandably so, it was an ongoing situation that had to play out in the public due to curiosity.
Loomis has maintained they just have things to figure out. Kamara's presence is proof that time's up. This was voluntary, but soon we'll get mandatory minicamp. How long will this go on for? Figuring out how he fits on the roster has no concrete end date.
The fact Moore had no idea Kamara was coming shows limited communication. Proximity should cancel that. It also makes the distance feel a little more tangible. If Kamara trusted he was returning in 2026, he likely continues with his regular schedule. His unexpected appearance could easily be both nudging the Saints to hurry up as well as a sign of good faith.
There's one side being abundantly clear on their stance while the other is being as vague as possible. Sooner or later, we'll all know what's going to happen. Until then, Saints fans and Kamara are waiting to see what the Saints do. From what we see, Kamara's presence screams, "I'm here. What now?"
