Alarm bells were ringing on the first Wednesday of the month, and it wasn't just the torando sirens being tested. Surprising both the media and the New Orleans Saints, running back Alvin Kamara made an appearance at voluntary OTAs.
However, it doesn't seem like the weird situation is over just yet. "I don't know the business side of things; I don't think anything has necessarily been done there, but it was good to see him," Kellen Moore said to the media before the said OTAs. "Obviously a lot of the time he's not here this time of year, and so I'm excited to spend a little time talking with him and just seeing where it's all at."
It's unclear at what level Kamara will actually participate, as it's been a few years since the NFL veteran has actually showed up to voluntary workouts. Normally, he just does his thing and waits until mandatory minicamp to show up. Kamara being here at this moment is honestly bizarre, but if his presence shows anything, it indicates that he is fully committed to the Saints in 2026. If only it were clear what the Saints thought of the situation.
Despite his appearances at OTAs, the vibe between Alvin Kamara and the Saints is still weird.
If you've been paying attention to the media throughout the offseason, you might've already known about Alvin Kamara's intentions. Earlier in the offseason, he told Terron Armstead that he'd "be there soon." A clear sign that he's committed, it's a statement that the Saints seemed to have ignored.
It's a situation that's made weird because of a rarely used de-escalator clause, but Kamara's comments and actions (early morning workouts on the same days as previous OTAs) clearly show what he's thinking. The Saints' unwillingness to give their own solid answer has really muddled the situation.
Through every press conference this offseason, Kellen Moore has been asked whether or not they'll actually have Kamara on the team come the start of the season. Each time, until today that is, he gave the same answer: that they're still evaluating the roster. Well, what a better way to evaluate the roster than by having all the players on the field.
Kamara being in New Orleas right now indicates that he wasn't joking when he told Terron Armstead that he'd "be there soon." He's obviously committed to the Black and Gold, and by showing up now he has effectively pushed the ball back into the Saints' court.
It's your turn now, Mickey Loomis and Co.
