Alvin Kamara hitting a career milestone is the offense's best chance for success

Kellen Moore will bring his offensive scheme to New Orleans. This could allow Alvin Kamara to reach 1,000 yards for the first time in his career.

For all the success Alvin Kamara has had an illustrious career, he has still never eclipsed 1,000 yards in his career. Fortunately, he has a golden opportunity to reach that number in 2025. This is largely due to Kellen Moore and the offensive scheme he’s set to bring in. The scheme being effective and Kamara reaching 1,000 yards is the best case scenario for the Saints.

Kellen Moore obviously had immense success with the Eagles in 2024, especially on the ground game. Philadelphia rushed for over 3,000 rushing yards, with Saquon Barkely reaching 2,005. It’s not logical to think that Moore will replicate this success in New Orleans. However, expecting the rushing attack to be more effective is warranted.

Another underrated piece that the Saints brought in is T.J. Paganetti. Paganetti was the run game specialist and assistant offensive line coach on the Eagles last year. Now he’s the run game coordinator for the Saints. He was a major reason why the Eagles rushing attack was so effective. Paganetti should help improve the Saints run game quickly.

Alvin Kamara's success will be an indication of Kellen Moore's scheme, and that should have a trickle down effect

Kamara will have some help in the running game. Kendre Miller, Devin Neal and Cam Akers are three options behind him who will contribute to the attack. This will help the aging Kamara’s legs stay fresh and allow him to maximize his effectiveness.

Joel Thomas was brought back as running back coach as well which should help develop the backs behind Kamara. In addition, Kamara and Thomas had an amazing bond before he left for the Giants. The five time pro bowler has a spectacular opportunity to reach 1,000 yards for the first time.

There's a chance Kamara sees a higher yards per carry, so that allows him to reach greater heights on less touches. Though he has help, the unit goes as far as Kamara takes it. He's the star of the room. Kamara reaching the century mark likely means the scheme is working. That most likely means the players behind Kamara are playing well also.

A great run game also impacts the passing game

The offense will thrive if they can establish a run game. Either Tyler Shough or Spencer Rattler will be the starter, but either way the Saints will start an inexperienced quarterback. An effective run game will benefit the passing attack as well by forcing the defense to change their approach.

A formidable rushing game will keep the opposing pass rushers at bay, they won’t be able to pin their ears back and rush the quarterback. The secondary won’t be able to stay back with two high safety’s if they can’t stop the run game. This will make the starting quarterback's life significantly easier.

Kellen Moore’s offensive scheme creates a golden opportunity for Kamara to be effective and eclipse 1,000 yards. A productive run game will help the whole offense perform at a high level. It could be the difference between winning and losing a game. This is the best case scenario for the Saints on offense.
