The New Orleans Saints open up their 2025 season against Kyler Murray and the Arizona Cardinals. Whether the Saints have Tyler Shough, Spencer Rattler or surprise everyone with Jake Haener under center, Alvin Kamara will be one of the most reliable safety outlets for the young quarterback.

As we continue our countdown to kickoff, we're going to count on Kamara in the same way his quarterback likely will in the upcoming season. Kamara's 49-yard run against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday Night Football is our play of the day, as we inch closer to the opener.

Kamara ended the game with 197 total yards and two touchdowns. His 197 yards was the highest of his career until he surpassed 200 yards against the Panthers this season. Even 5 years later, however, Kamara's 49-yard run remains the second longest of his career.

Runnign the football was a small part of Alvin Kamara's career day

Kamara didn't run the ball often against the Packers. His 49-yard scamper was one of only six rushing attempts on the day. That one run also made up for 84 percent of his rushing total that day. Kamara ended with 58 yards on the ground.

The lack of rushing attempts or production didn't stop Kamara from dominating the game. He tied with Latavius Murray as the team's leading rusher, but Kamara's greatest contribution came in the passing game. He finished with 13 catches for 139 yards, a career-high.

This run wasn't even Kamara's biggest highlight of the ball game, nor was it his longest play of the day. Kamara's day was highlighted by a screen pass he took for a touchdown. Kamara has always been known for his effortless running style. It looked like the running back was playing the game on easy on that score.

The co-MVP of the play goes to Erik McCoy. McCoy hustled downfield, leading the way for Kamara most of the play. It was one of the plays that best showcased the center's athleticism. McCoy won't be credited for the touchdown, but it's hard to think about that score without thinking of him.
