After a long coaching search, the New Orleans Saints finally have the three most important coaches in place. Kellen Moore is head coach, Doug Nussmeier is offensive coordinator, and Brandon Staley is defensive coordinator. All three worked together with the Los Angeles Chargers in 2023, when Staley was the head coach, and now they will run it back in New Orleans under Moore.

Staley was the latest hire to the staff, and when it was announced that he’ll be defensive coordinator, Saints veteran defender, Alontae Taylor, immediately sent a message to him. Taking to Instagram, Taylor told Staley to just unleash him, and he’ll make things happen.

The versatile corner has been vocal throughout the coaching search. Once Moore was hired, Taylor went on Instagram live and told him to go get the best defensive coordinator he could find, because the Saints are trying to win a Super Bowl. Moore responded by hiring Brandon Staley, who quickly built a reputation as a defensive guru in this league.

He had one season as the defensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams, before their dominant production led to him becoming the head coach of the Chargers. Staley’s tenure as a head coach in LA was rocky, but he still showed his defensive prowess at times.

Now, he’ll bring that prowess to the Saints, and will work with players like Alontae Taylor. Taylor has proven to be a versatile piece for New Orleans, playing outside corner and in the slot. He also had moments where he excels in coverage and dominates in the backfield. In 2024, the defensive back had four sacks and seven tackles for a loss.

It’s now up to Staley to figure out how to get the best out of him and the other players in the unit. New Orleans is coming off a down year defensively, but the team has enough talented players to be a solid defense.
