The New Orleans Saints won 20-17 against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday afternoon in The Caesars Superdome. They have now swept the Panthers this season and are on a two game win streak.

There are tons of great performances to go through in this game. Although it was vastly positive, there is still one negative to take into account.

With that said, it’s time to get into the four winners and one loser from the Saints win on Sunday.

Tyler Shough and Kellen Moore are emerging as future cornerstones for the Saints

Winner: Tyler Shough

Tyler Shough has surpassed every expectation heading into the season. He went 24/32, 272 yards, one touchdown, and added 32 yards rushing. Shough will be the starting quarterback next year, that’s no question. He’s given fans hope in a year that was supposed to be full of disappointment. The national media may not recognize it, but Shough has been elite for the Saints.

Winner: Charlie Smyth

Charlie Smyth embodies the underdog story and has delivered since he’s gotten the starting role. He went 2/2 on Sunday, including a game winning 47 yard field goal. He’s missed one kick, but that was in terrible weather conditions. He’s got the leg to kick from 60+; he could become a star in the league if he continues to improve his accuracy.

Losers: Team's health

The injury bug has plagued the Saints in 2025. Devin Neal and Devaughn Vele both got injured against the Panthers. No news has been released about the severity of them but regardless, they join a long list of injured Saints. They’ve lost key contributors such as Erik McCoy, Alvin Kamara, Kendre Miller, and Vernon Broughton. The goal for the remainder of the season is to build momentum, it’s pivotal they heal ahead of next season.

Winner: Kellen Moore

The team is fully bought in on Kellen Moore. They show up weekly and fight for their head coach despite being eliminated for the playoffs. There was skepticism among the national media when Moore was hired, but it looks like a spectacular move currently. The Saints may have found their long-term head coach.

Winner: Chase Young

Chase Young has been the star on defense ever since returning from his calf injury. He racked up one sack and two tackles for loss against the Panthers. The three year $51 million extension this offseason is proving to be a steal. Young is a foundational piece for the future of the Saints.
