Day 1 of the Senior Bowl is just wrapping up and certain players are already separating themselves from the pack. It’s still early in the event, however, their performances will already leave a lasting impression on scouts. New Orleans Saints fans should keep a close-eye on these targets, as the Saints seven staff members are undoubtedly taking notice.
Only four prospects are listed, but plenty others shined in the opening practice. Just because someone isn’t listed here doesn’t mean they disappointed.
With that said, here are the four players who raised their stock the most during the first practice at the Senior Bowl.
Lee Hunter is the biggest winner from the opening practice
Lee Hunter- Defensive Tackle, Texas Tech
Lee Hunter was easily the most dominant player on Tuesday. The Mobile, AL native was unblockable. He showed off his quickness by consistently beating defenders and his power to be immovable in the run game. Hunter’s stock was already rising before the Senior Bowl, as he was a first round selection in Daniel Jeremiah’s recent mock draft but solidified it with this performance.
Ted Hurst- Wide Receiver, Georgia State
Ted Hurst impressed the Senior Bowl audience with an amazing one handed catch but had an outstanding day beyond that as well. The Senior Bowl was a huge opportunity for Hurst to gain exposure, as he lacked it coming from Georgia State, and he delivered it on all accounts. He can bolster himself to a day-two pick, with the possibility of sneaking into round two.
Zion Young- EDGE, Missouri
There’s a reason I have Zion Young as my second highest graded edge rusher, and he showed it in the first practice. Everyone knows he is dominant against the run, but he showed an impressive ability to win one-on-one matchups as a pass rusher. If he continues to trend up with a good week of practice, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him enter round one conversations.
Tyren Montgomery- WR, John Carroll
Tyren Montgomery was a late addition to the Senior Bowl roster, which confused a lot of fans. Division three school John Carroll isn’t known for consistently putting players in the NFL, but Montgomery proved he deserved to be in Mobile on Tuesday. His day was highlighted by torching potential first round pick cornerback Colton Hood in a route. There’s an argument to be made that no prospect improved their stock more than Montgomery did in the first practice.
