The NFL Draft cycle is officially underway with the East-West Shrine Bowl beginning practice last week and the Senior Bowl gearing up to start on Tuesday. This means New Orleans Saints fans should start getting accustomed to some potential targets. There’s no better way to do that than with mock drafts.

It's about the Saints gathering talent at the biggest positional needs prior to free agency. First off, it’s paramount they protect and give Tyler Shough as many weapons as possible. It’s a major year for him; there can’t be any questions if he’s their starting quarterback going forward.

Another vital need is on the defensive line, providing a second standout pass rusher opposite of Chase Young who can wreak havoc on opponents is necessary. There are other issues on the roster, but these are the most pressing currently.

The Saints grab a dynamic pass catcher in the first round with Makai Lemon

1:09- Makai Lemon, WR, USC

Makai Lemon isn’t the most physically gifted receiver, only being 5 '11”, 195 LBs, but makes up for it with his short-area burst and physicality. The 2025 Biletnikoff award winner had a spectacular 2025 campaign with 79 receptions, 1,156 yards and 11 touchdowns. Lemon masterfully creates separation through his twitchy route running and elite acceleration. The former USC Trojan plays far bigger than his frame. Lemon attacks 50/50 balls and is fearless of contact.

The biggest issue with Lemon is his lack of breakaway speed. It isn’t bad, but leaves room to be desired. It’s unlikely he runs a 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine so teams will likely be left without a number on this speed, so it will be his main question throughout the process. Regardless of this, his tape shows a receiver who can win in multiple aspects despite this. He’s a safe round one option who could develop into a superstar.

2:42- Emmanuel Pregnon, Guard, Oregon

Emmanuel Pregnon would be a perfect pick for the Saints if he falls to the second round. The 6’5”, 318 LBs guard is a mix of best player available and the biggest positional need. Pregnon has only given up one sack and five pressures in 2025. He has absurd strength and is a mauler in the run game. Pregnon has positional versatility and can play both guard positions. He would be a valuable addition who could be a day one starter for the Saints.

3:73- Malachi Lawrence, Edge rusher, UCF

The first thing on Malachi Lawrence’s scouting report is his dominance against the run. The 6’4”, 250 LBs edge rusher pairs elite strength with good burst. He constantly penetrates the backfield and is disruptful on a down-by-down basis. However, his ability extends far beyond this. He’s shown flashes of being a productive pass rusher, particularly with his hand usage. Lawrence isn’t a finished product, but could develop into a premier edge rusher, while being an outstanding run defender at his floor.
