Predicting who will lead the New Orleans Saints in interceptions in 2022
The New Orleans Saints aren’t strangers to picking off the football. Who will lead the team in interceptions during the 2022 season?
The 2021 season saw the New Orleans Saints haul in 18 interceptions, which tied them for sixth-most in the league, per NFL.com. They tied with the Packers and the only teams with more picks than them were the Cowboys, Patriots, Bills, Colts, and Rams.
Four Saints players were tied with the most interceptions during the 2021 season, all with three picks, according to Pro Football Reference. Those four players were Paulson Adebo, C.J. Gardner-Johnson, Marcus Lattimore, and P.J. Williams.
Because of that, it’s really difficult to predict who could lead the team in picks this upcoming season. The team has so many playmakers and ball hawks in their secondary and any of them could make a play on the ball at any given moment.
Who will lead the New Orleans Saints in interceptions in 2022?
While the Saints lost some playmakers in their secondary this offseason, the four players who led the team in picks last year are returning, meaning any of them is a good choice to do so again this year.
New Orleans also added Tyrann Mathieu, Marcus Maye, and Alontae Taylor to their secondary and these are players who will get theirs in the pick department as well. Mathieu had three last year, which would have tied him for the most in New Orleans. He had six picks the year before. Maye was injured last year but had two interceptions in 2020. Taylor also had two during his senior year at Tennessee.
With all of this in mind, who am I going with to lead the 2022 Saints in interceptions?
I’m going to go with the second-year product Paulson Adebo. He had a solid rookie year and has looked phenomenal in training camp. I feel confident that the Stanford product can lead the New Orleans Saints in interceptions this year. After all, his first-ever pick came against Aaron Rodgers, who rarely even throws interceptions. That’s impressive.
