The New Orleans Saints pass-rush should be strong in 2022. Who will lead the team in sacks when the dust has settled on this season?

The New Orleans Saints finished the 2021 season with 46 sacks, good for the eighth-most in the NFL, per ESPN. This year should be another strong year for them in the pass-rushing department if everything comes together for the black and gold.

It’s a bit tricky to predict who could lead the Saints in sacks this year because they’re so stacked on the defensive side of the ball.

Last year, Cameron Jordan ended the year as the leader in sacks with 12.5 on his resumé, per Pro Football Reference. This came after an incredibly slow start by the veteran, as it took him until Week 7 to get a sack on the stat sheet. That shows how dominant Jordan was down the stretch.

In second place was Marcus Davenport, who finished the year with 9.0 sacks to his name. This was a great improvement for Davenport, who before the 2021 season, looked to be a bust. His nine sacks came in 11 games too, showing that when he was on the field, he was making a difference.

Those two led the pack by quite a bit, as third-place in sacks was Tanoh Kpassagnon, who had 4.0 during his first year in the Big Easy. Kpassagnon missed half the season due to injury so it’s possible that he’d have had several more had he remained healthy.

Who will lead the New Orleans Saints in sacks in 2022?

As mentioned above, it’s a bit tricky to pick who will lead the team in sacks. Jordan is the easy pick because he’s done it so many times before and last year showed that he isn’t slowing down despite entering his 12th season.

I say this is tough to pick because Davenport would be an intriguing option but he’s failed to stay healthy during his four years in the pros. Even last year despite the positive production, Davenport missed six games. Can he stay healthy enough to lead the team in sacks?

Payton Turner could be a sneaky option here but he might not even be the backup on the d-line. Plus, Turner also missed a good chunk of time last year.

The safe pick to lead the team in sacks is Cameron Jordan and he’s given us no reason to think that he can’t be the Saints’ leader in sacks during the 2022 season.
