This year’s New Orleans Saints wide receiver room will look so much better than last year’s unit. Who will lead the team in receiving yards?

This time last year, New Orleans Saints fans were trying to talk themselves into Marquez Callaway and Tre’Quan Smith as the WR1 and WR2 of the offense. It didn’t go according to plan though Callaway did end the season as the team’s leader in receiving yards with 698, according to Pro Football Reference. It took him a bit to get going but once he did, he was decent.

A lot has changed since the conclusion of the 2021 season, however, and now Callaway is poised to be a backup on the team if he’s not traded.

The Saints get Michael Thomas back from injury and he last led the team in receiving yards in 2019 with 1,725 yards. In 2020, Alvin Kamara led the team in receiving yards despite being a running back and that was due to Thomas missing a chunk of the season due to injury.

New Orleans also added Chris Olave and Jarvis Landry this offseason and they’ll provide extra weapons for Jameis Winston.

Who will lead the New Orleans Saints in receiving yards in 2022?

This is a tough stat to predict because, unlike last year, the Saints have a lot of options who could lead the team in receiving yards. Ultimately, I’ll go with Thomas to lead the Saints in receiving yards.

This could obviously backfire though, as Thomas could get injured or simply not be the same player he was three years ago. The hope, however, is that now that he’s fully healthy, he’ll return to that 2019 form.

A case could easily be made for Olave, Landry, and even Kamara though. Olave is a rookie but there are going to be games where both Thomas and Landry are locked up and that’ll give Olave a chance to shine. Landry is only signed for one year and could use that as motivation to totally ball out.

Kamara, despite being a running back, could be an option to lead the team because he’s done it before and isn’t a typical running back. He’s almost used more as a receiver in the offense.

Michael Thomas is back healthy though and that’s why he’s my pick to lead the Saints in receiving yards this year. Who are you going with?
