Saints Training Camp: 5 players who had us talking after Day 9
2. Tony Jones Jr.
This time last year, Tony Jones Jr. was the talk of the town. He hadn’t done much for the team in 2020 but 2021 was different, as Latavius Murray was no longer a lock to make the roster and Jones could wiggle his way onto the roster with a strong camp.
That’s exactly what the Notre Dame product did and he found his way onto the 53-man roster. Unfortunately, an injury cut his chances to shine short but he’s picking up where he left off last summer.
First, as Fazende notes in the tweet above, Dalton and Jones linked up on a play that resulted in a touchdown during drills. The two struck again not long after with Jones finding the end zone once again.
Jones could definitely make the roster again this summer but it won’t be easy. He has newcomer UDFA Abram Smith to compete with as well as Dwayne Washington, Devine Ozigbo, and Malcolm Brown so it’s good to see him making a strong case for himself.
1. Michael Thomas
Without a doubt, the star of Friday’s camp was the one and only Michael Thomas, who was participating in 1-on-1s for the first time since training camp kicked off this summer.
As John Hendrix mentions, he went 2-0 against Paulson Adebo, who has been the guy in camp. Jeff Nowak elaborates more on Thomas’ day, noting that on the second rep he was well-covered by Pete Werner but still made the catch.
It might only be camp but seeing Michael Thomas out there working with the team and looking like the Michael Thomas of old was certainly a great sight.
