Saints training camp is here! What position battles should fans be keeping an eye on in 2022?

Unlike last summer, the New Orleans Saints won’t be having a showdown at quarterback this summer. Jameis Winston will be the starter at the position while Andy Dalton holds the clipboard on the sidelines.

Even though quarterback isn’t a position to watch this summer, there are still plenty of other position battles that fans can keep a watchful eye over. Let’s check them out!

Third-String Running Back

Alvin Kamara and Mark Ingram are making the 53-man roster but with Kamara’s looming suspension, the third-string running back is a huge position to be paying attention to.

The favorite to win the job is probably Dwayne Washington, who has played special teams with the team over the past four years. He’s never been much of an offensive weapon but the team’s familiarity with him will definitely help him get on the team (assuming he does).

I’m rooting for UDFA Abram Smith to make the team and serve as the RB3 (and RB2 while Ingram is out) but it’s certainly an uphill battle for an undrafted player to make the team. Tony Jones Jr. was able to knock Latavius Murray off the roster last year but then failed to live up to expectations in the regular season.

There’s also former Nebraska product Devine Ozigbo, who has spent time with the Saints before. These are the players who are fighting it out for the RB3 job in New Orleans.
