The New Orleans Saints have made some moves ahead of training camp, adding three new faces to the team and also parting ways with three players as well.

Training camp is here for the New Orleans Saints and roster moves are going to come in by the dozen. The black and gold have already gotten started with their roster moves, adding three players to the squad before training camp officially gets underway and also cutting three players as well.

The three players joining the team are Malcolm Brown, Nick Martin, and Scott Patchan. Those on their way out are Jordan Miller, Derek Schweiger, and Daniel Whelan.

Saints add 3 players, cut 3 others

Brown is the biggest addition out of this bunch. The eight-year running back has spent time with both the Rams and Dolphins and rushed for 125 yards and a touchdown in Miami last year. He appeared in seven games with the ‘Fins and had spent the other six years of his career with the Rams.

Martin started 65 games at center for the Texans between 2018 and 2020 and last year played in 17 games for the Raiders. He’s an experienced center and gives New Orleans a better backup option should something happen to Erik McCoy (instead of forcing Cesar Ruiz to slide in there).

Patchan is going to compete for the final defensive end spot on the roster with his biggest competition being former first-round pick Taco Charlton. The UDFA out of Colorado State could be a practice squad candidate.

As for those no longer on the team, it’s not surprising to see them on their way out, as they had a tough task ahead of them trying to make the final roster. Miller was competing at a stacked cornerback spot, Schweiger was simply competing for an offensive tackle spot but the practice squad was in his future, and Whelan had little to no chance of making the team due to punting sensation Blake Gillikin coming back for year two.
