Taysom Hill is headed into his sixth year on the New Orleans Saints roster. What should fans expect from the versatile player in year six?

Over the years, Taysom Hill has gained a lot of attention for what he’s been able to do as a member of the New Orleans Saints. Hill played quarterback at BYU and that was what he set out to do in the NFL and Sean Payton and the Saints allowed him to do that… well, sort of.

Hill was used as an offensive weapon, meaning he spent time throwing, running, and catching the ball. He was a genuine threat whenever the ball was in his hands and teams had a tough time game planning for him.

In 2020, Drew Brees missed four games due to injury, which led to Hill stepping in as the starting quarterback for four games. He went 3-1 in those games and showed that he could keep the team afloat without Brees.

The following year, however, Hill lost the starting job to Jameis Winston but he ended up starting five games after Winston was injured. It was evident that Hill couldn’t be the long-term option in New Orleans but Payton made sure to get his guy paid before he stepped away from coaching.

Saints Roster: What should fans expect from Taysom Hill this year?

Dennis Allen has already clarified that Hill will transition to the tight end position full-time. He and Adam Trautman will battle it out to see who the starting tight end is and Hill has a chance to make a name for himself at a different position.

When ESPN’s Mike Clay ran his projections for the 2022 season, he didn’t see Hill making much of a splash at his new full-time gig. Clay projected that Hill would finish the season with just seven catches for 77 yards. That would be a massive disappointment but this is his first full season at the position so it’s not crazy to think that he would experience a setback.
