Vincent Gray went undrafted this year but found his way onto the New Orleans Saints roster. What should fans expect from the Michigan product in 2022?
The New Orleans Saints have had tremendous luck with their undrafted free agent finds and Vincent Gray is hoping he’s the next in line to impress the black and gold in that department. After going undrafted out of Michigan, Gray signed with the Saints and now has a tall task ahead of him when it comes to making the roster.
During his final season at Michigan, Gray notched 46 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, seven defended passes, one forced fumble, and one sack through 13 games. He was a solid player for the Wolverines but it won’t be easy for him to make the Saints’ 53-man roster.
Saints Roster: What should fans expect from Vincent Gray this year?
Truthfully, it’ll be hard for Gray to stick on the roster, so a realistic expectation for him would be for him to make the practice squad and maybe get a late-season call-up to the active roster. Ahead of him on the depth chart are Marshon Lattimore, Bradley Roby, and Jordan Miller. He could potentially leapfrog Miller but he’ll have to have a solid summer to do so.
Then again, the Saints give their UDFAs the same chances as everyone else on the roster (minus the starters and fringe-starters, of course) so if Gray impresses over these next few weeks, they won’t hesitate to keep him on the roster.
More than likely though, the Michigan product will land on the practice squad and from there, maybe he can eventually end up on the active roster, or perhaps another team plucks him off the practice squad. If the Saints struggle with injuries again this year, Gray might be able to move up but if we’re discussing a realistic expectation for him, it’s that he spends the year on the practice squad.
