The NOLA Saints added plenty of talent this offseason. Out of all of those newcomers, who will end up starting for the black and gold in the 2022 season?

When the NFL offseason began this year, the New Orleans Saints got off to a bit of a slow start. They firmly planted themselves in the Deshaun Watson sweepstakes and after missing out, were behind the rest of the teams in free agency.

Fortunately, the Saints rebounded and added some impressive names despite the other teams having a massive head start. New Orleans also had two first-round picks that should be able to find their way into a starting role when the season gets underway.

Let’s glance at five Saints newcomers who should be starting for the team in 2022.

The only player on this list that isn’t practically guaranteed to be in the starting lineup when the Saints head to Atlanta for the first game of the season is Trevor Penning. New Orleans spent the 19th overall pick on Penning this year with the intent of starting him but the starting gig won’t be handed to him.

If Penning doesn’t look ready to slide into the starting left tackle role left vacant by Terron Armstead signing with the Dolphins, James Hurst will likely start there until Penning is ready. The hope is that Penning is ready to be a starter but if the Saints think it’s better to hold off on putting him in that position, then Hurst will get the nod.
